Issues of electronic commerce, virtual organizations, knowledge management and reengineering are among the most important topics to business in today's information technology env-ronment. Unfortunately, to date, there has been only limited use of AI to address these issues. The purpose of this workshop was to establish foundations for the use of AI in these emerging areas of corporate interest. This workshop will focus on how AI is being embedded in applications designed to facilitate electronic commerce, virtual organizations, and enterprise knowledge management, and accordingly reengineer the firm. The workshop also addressed the use of AI as a tool to facilitate reengineering. Previous research in this area has used a number of AI approaches, including, case-based reasoning, constraint-based approaches, expert systems and intelligent agents.
