We argue that physically embodied robotics presents a niche of key importance in elder care of the future. We present our work toward assistive interactive robotics that will enable intelligent robots, using little if any physical contact with users, to provide individualized and adaptive monitoring, coaching, training, encourage- ment, and aid to people with a variety of needs.
